My Iron levels are normal but my Ferritin is very low like 8ng/ml. How can I fix this through food?

By Sini KumarKaya Guru Verified

I eat green leafy vegetables, lentils, bitter gourd etc. Also almost every day I have around 20-30 soaked and peeled almonds with 2 dates in a warm drink form. Please advise what can i do consistently better to get my Ferritin to normal range.

Iron levels are normal which means you have enough in your box for a smooth working. Low ferritin means you have less in your reserves which usually does the work in an emergency. It is more of an absorption problem. It is better to concentrate in gut health so that the intestines work well during absorbtion. certain medications along with iron-rich diet (Meat Liver, Oysters, Lentils, Chickpeas, Spinach etc) is found to be very effective.

I'd like to add that with a ferritin value of 8 ng/mL, I would be cautious about expecting dietary measures alone to be sufficient. Looking at the overall clinical picture would also be important.

Liver, kidney and cholesterol panels all looks normal. Starting taking Ferritin. Any test to specifically figure out the absorption?
